My Skin Care Empties for May to August

Another month falls by the wayside so it’s time for another skin care empties post!  (Even though I haven’t done one since April…)  It has been a busy few months and I haven’t bought much new skin care, apart from my Coast Sydney Botanicals haul, which I am still wading through.

More on my busy status though, I have been dedicating more of my time towards my ETSY shop as of late so I have cut back my posts to once a week now.  I love my blog and will never stop updating you with more wonderful green and clean lifestyle ideas/information as I discover it but for the time being it is taking up space on the back burner as I establish and build up my ETSY shop.  So if you haven’t checked out all my amazing skin care & Zero Waste products for a green and clean life – then go there now! Anyway enough about me, here are my skin care empties for May to August.

Nip + Fab Glycolic Cleansing Fix

I really do love this cleanser.  My skin never looked better while using this product.  The glycolic acid gently exfoliates and retextures your skin without stripping it of your natural oils and leaving you dry and flakey.  This is a popular drugstore brand here in Australia and is very reasonably priced.  For cruelty-free skin care lovers, this is a must have cleanser!  For me, an all natural skin care lover, it gets a pass.

Will I repurchase?  No.

What do I use now?  RosehipPLUS Organic Daily Cream Cleanser – Australian Made. Certified Organic, Certified Vegan & Cruelty-Free.

Johnson’s Bedtime Baby Bath

I have had this product for ages, I bought this before I knew much about skin care and thought I was buying something safe to put on my kid’s precious skin.  Alas, I didn’t know about the controversy surrounding Johnson & Johnson, or much about what ingredients to look out for.  Now I know better and I will never purchase this product again.  This product may market itself as being Paraben free but it does contain ingredients with contamination, toxicity and irritation concerns.  Not something you want to be using on your beautiful babies!

Will I repurchase?  No.

What do I use now? WOTNOT Baby Wash – Australian Made. Contains certified organic ingredients, Cruelty-Free, Vegan and Gluten Free.

Weleda Sea Buckthorn Creamy Body Wash

Never have I smelt a body wash that is so dreamy.  No honestly, I have dreams about it.  I would repurchase this for the smell alone.  Combine the orange/grapefruit scent (from essential oils, not synthetic fragrance!) with the creamy texture to make this one of my favourite body washes ever.  It is gentle and the sea buckthorn oil means it is very nourishing for the skin as well.  Don’t think I can rave about this product enough!

Will I repurchase?  Ahh, YES!

The Body Shop Strawberry Shower Gel

I love the smell of this shower gel too.  But there is a massive difference between this scent and the scent from the Weleda body wash – this one is fake.  This is scented using a synthetic fragrance, that can hide all sorts of nasties – parabens etc.  You can honestly tell the difference between real and fake when you smell them together.  There is something just a little off about this strawberry fragrance.  I was given this as a sample in a bag I got from a Health and Wellness expo.  Which is ridiculous because aside from the scent being synthetic, this product also contains lots of nasty ingredients and The Body Shop is owned by Loreal – a company that still tests on animals.  Doesn’t really scream health or wellness to me – but that’s greenwashing for you!

Will I repurchase?  No.

What do I use now? Apart from Weleda I also have Nature’s Quest Natural Body Wash – Australian Made.  All natural, Cruelty-Free and uses recyclable packaging.

Black Chicken Remedies Hydrate My Face Toning Mist

When I ran out of my Josh Rosebrook toner I decided to keep my options open and try something different.  I was actually really disappointed with this toner.  It just did nothing for me plus the spray comes out in a concentrated squirt as opposed to a gentle mist action.  I was pretty disappointed in general with this brand as I tried their natural deodorant as well and did not have a pleasant (smelling) experience with it either.

Will I repurchase?  No.

What do I use now? Coast Sydney Botanicals Moana Toner Mist – Australian Made. Cruelty-Free, Toxin-Free and Completely Vegan.

Nature’s Quest Natural Hand Wash

I discovered Nature’s Quest when I won a competition run by my local health food store.  I won a huge selection of Nature’s Quest items and I fell in love with their simple, no nonsense products.  This super gentle hand wash is soap free and uses top all natural ingredients AND they use recyclable containers.  Stoked with this find!

Will I repurchase?  Yes.

Loreal Casting Creme Gloss Hair Colour

I bought this under protest, I was desperate to dye my hair and didn’t have the time or motivation to go find my favourite all natural hair colour – Desert Shadow.  I immediately regretted my decision not to wait.  It’s highly disconcerting that this product can dye my hair in 20 minutes flat when it takes my all natural hair colour 3 to 4 hours.  What scary chemicals must it take to do that to your hair!  Plus after using Desert Shadow my hair always feels soft and healthy, after using this product my hair felt limp and the ends felt split.  I can’t believe I used this type of hair colour for so many years and felt happy with the results. Now I know better!

Will I repurchase?  No.

What Do I use now?  Desert Shadow Hair Colour – Australian Made. Certified Organic, Vegan and Cruelty-Free.
