Confessions of a Skin Care Addict: My Favourite Brands

I am a skin care addict and I admit it loudly and proudly.  I love looking after my skin.  So I only use good quality products on my face and body.  These are my absolute favourite organic and cruelty free skin care brands.

Leahlani Skincare

I first discovered Leahlani Skincare on Instagram.  Many of the “beauty influencers” I followed raved about her skin care products.  With good reason.  I have only bought her Mermaid Mask, but it was enough to make me fall in love with Leah’s brand.  (Plus she has a great name!)

Inspired, inspirited and intent; I set off to create a line of skin care that would transform a ‘routine’ into a ‘ritual’.

She has succeeded with her desires to create skin care that is more ritual than routine.  From the first twist of the jar, you are immersed in the tropical scents of Hawaii (Leah’s home state).  Every time I put on the Mermaid Mask it is a truly blessed experience.  For my skin and my soul.

When something is made by hand with love, you can feel it. Each jar and bottle of Leahlani harnesses that connection and is infused with aloha. Become inspired to care for your skin by setting the intention for healing, and each time that you touch your precious face, do so with tenderness and love.

Leahlani Skincare has a generous range of face products and a few body products as well.

All of their products are hand blended in small batches on the North Shore of Kauai Island.  Fresh batches are blended weekly, and order their ingredients in smaller quantities to make sure maximum freshness and potency.  And her products are in the mid-price range which is a nice change as most organic skin care products are fairly expensive… *cough* May Lindstrom *cough*

“once you start blending and infusing, that’s when the magic happens. Ingredients begin to transform and metamorphose. It is pure plant, oil, fruit and nectar alchemy for me. It is very similar to cooking in a way and I am very much in love with the entire process.” – Leah

The Mermaid Mask, one of her top sellers, uses Hawaiian spirulina and raw honey, premium chlorella and circulation-boosting essential oils to give your skin the ultimate “aloha glow”.

Another popular product is the Bless Beauty Balm.  Rich, organic butters coalesce with the most lush organic and cold pressed beauty oils to nurture and bless your skin for an unparalleled softness.  Bless is a fantastic multi-tasker: first cleanse, facial moisturiser, hand and body cream and lip balm.  Using magical products like argan oil, camellia seed oil, rosehip fruit, cocoa and shae butter it is little wonder that it is so nourishing.  This is the Leahlani product I will be getting next.

Leahlani Skincare is luxurious and high quality organic skin care brand.  You can feel the aloha (love) she pours into each product by the way her products tenderly nurture you skin.

Josh Rosebrook

This is another brand I discovered through beauty influencers on Instagram.  The Hydrating Accelerator was getting a lot of hype so I decided to buy it (I really need to stay off Instagram!!)  It’s a toner among toners.  It is the Grand Poobah of all toners.  Even my husband who loathes spending more than $10 bucks on anything skin care related has allowed me to repurchase this. (it’s AUD$33 for the 60ml)  So once again I am basing my review on one product..  It is that damn good!

By my 20’s I had moved to Los Angeles and was working in high-end hair salons. As my career flourished, I began looking for products containing specific, natural ingredients and I couldn’t find them anywhere on the market. Driven by desire for what I wanted and a fascination with natural ingredients, I expanded my background in hair and scalp to the biochemistry of the skin. I began creating my own skin care and the results were astounding.

Josh Rosebrook has a range of organic skin care and hair care products that are in the mid to high price range.

All of their Certified Organic Herbal Infusions and Extracts are made In House and they do not buy pre-made herbal and plant extracts from a supplier.  They make their own!

My friends and clients at the time had no real understanding about what worked to heal, regenerate and protect their skin, scalp and hair. They were filled with a lot of misinformation and marketing hype and I knew I could help them. I became imbued with a great passion to educate and help people feel better, more beautiful, confident, and in alignment with their true self. This continues to inspire me every day to create the most effective, pure products of value that deliver real results.

The Hydrating Accelerator is another multi-tasking product that is a combination hydrator, toner and a light moisturizer all in one. Organic Vitamin-Infused Aloe Water lowers skin surface tension, enhancing the delivery of hydration and active nutrients into the skin.

In March the Allure magazine chose Josh Rosebrook as one of the top natural hair care brands and The Nourish Shampoo is the Organic Beauty Talk winner for 2014 and 2013.  Rich plant oils and distinct herbal infusions create potent synergy to treat scalp conditions, keep hair moisture, soften and add shine while stimulating follicle circulation to increase flow of nourishment, encouraging strong, continued hair growth.

Josh Rosebrook is going from strength to strength and he is still a relatively new brand.  They go to great lengths to make sure absolute purity, safety and zero toxicity in all their ingredients which make for fantastic skin care and hair care products.

Odacité

From the Founder of Odacité, Valerie Grandury

Born and raised in Paris, living in Los Angeles, it all started after I was diagnosed with breast cancer. Cancer was a major wake up call, I realized that if I wanted to heal I needed to change everything. I quit my job, went back to school to become a health and wellness coach and embarked in the fascinating journey of removing toxins from my life.

With 3 distinct collections; The Fresh collection, which is made fresh upon order for optimum efficiency and purity.  The Private collection, acclaimed in the press as “Haute Couture for your complexion”.  And the Pure Elements Serum Concentrates (which I have tried), each serum is an ultra-concentrated dose of actives.

Our endeavor is to produce the most effective products sans les toxins. We scout the world to source the highest quality ingredients, precious plant extracts, magical oils and potent cosmeceuticals. Ultimate potency, absolute freshness and complete purity are our criteria of selection, ensuring that each formula instantly improves the way your skin looks and feels.

In the Pure Elements Serum Concentrates collection they have a serum for every possible skin type or concern.

I have used the Papaya-Geranium concentrate for hyperpigmentation.  Each serum is listed on a table of elements.  They all have their own individual element number which you can chart on the origins table found on their website or comes packaged with your serum.  It tells you the extraction method, the cultivation method, the continent of each element and the country of each element.  I think that is a nice touch because I like knowing where each element comes from.

The Private collection as you can imagine is high-end pricing as opposed to the mid-range pricing of the Pure Elements.  So with high-end prices, comes high-end products.  Serums that are going to make your skin glow with health and vitality.  You can use them as a spot treatment or, as I prefer, mixed in with your moisturiser.  These serums are an intense little hit of actives that blast away whatever impurity that you want gone.

Odacité – French play on Audacity- marrying the best of two worlds luxurious French skin care & green California living. Odacité are a PETA certified, certified organic ingredient using company with oodles of French savoir faire and is driven by the Californian green revolution.
