Mask Madness

20170211_075658-1

Since starting my skin care journey I have become quite addicted to using masks.  Clay masks, sheet masks, peel masks, any type of mask.  Here is a run down of what I have at the moment.

Origins Drink Up Intensive Overnight Mask: (NOT Cruelty Free, NOT Organic) AUD$37

Leave it on overnight and your skin is super hydrated, soft and plump in the morning.  You are meant to put on a decent layer let it sink in for a minute or two and then wipe off the excess.  I make a bit of a mess because I am a side sleeper so I get it all over my pillow.  Great for dry skin ladies which I am not but thought it would be good for the colder months when my skin is a bit dryer.

Would I repurchase?  No, this company is not cruelty free and organic so I won’t repurchase from them for that reason.  Is the product any good.. yeah it works.

Ole Henriksen Lemon Strip Flash Peel: (Cruelty Free but NOT organic) AUD$64

I know, not technically a mask, but I leave it on my skin for 5 minutes so I am calling it a mask.  A tingly one, very tingly and quite rightly so.  It’s a peel so it’s using acid (lactic, glycolic and fruit acids) to slough away impurities and dead skin. I haven’t used it too many times so I can’t say I have seen results in what it claims: brightens skin and reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.  But it certainly works on getting rid of that dead skin and impurities.  My skin is as smooth as the day I was born after using this.  So I have high hopes that with prolonged use it will clear up the sun damage to my face.

Would I repurchase?  This is a tough one!  It is not organic and I have vowed to only buy organic and cruelty free products but it is a very good peel..  🙁

Tarte Amazonian Clay Double Detox Exfoliating Facial Mask: (Cruelty Free but owned by a NON cruelty free company and NOT Organic) USD$38.50

This mask definitely gives a bit of a tingle when you put it on.  If you have sensitive skin I do not recommend this product!  It has little exfoliator beads in it so when you wash it off you give your face a nice scrub and leaves your skin very smooth.  It also claims to reduce the size of your pores and makes your skin look more radiant.  I agree with the radiant statement but not with it reducing the size of my pores.  Pores are pores!  They don’t shrink.  They don’t open and close.  The size of your pores is genetic.  And any product that claims it can “shrink your pores” is an absolute fallacy.

Would I repurchase?  No, this company is not completely cruelty free in my opinion and not organic so I won’t repurchase from them for that reason.  Is the product any good.. my face feels clean and clear afterwards so I think it does half of what it says.

Josie Maran Whipped Mud Mask: (Cruelty Free but NOT Organic) AUD$70

This was a sample I got with my last Mecca Beauty Loop box.  This gave fantastic results and for $70 for the full size you would expect it to!  It uses Moroccan rhassoul clay to draw out impurities and bentonite clay to absorb toxins from the skin. Enriched with phytic acid to exfoliate and brighten, as well as 100% pure argan oil to hydrate, leaving skin feeling soft and buttery.

Would I purchase?  If this company was organic then I wouldn’t hesitate to buy it in a heartbeat but alas I will not be purchasing.

The Body Shop Warming Mineral Mask: (Cruelty Free but owned by a NON cruelty free company and NOT Organic)

The Body Shop does not make this exact product anymore.. That’s how old it is!!  So the closest I could find is their new Mineral & Ginger Warming Massage Clay Mask.  You put it on your damp face and once you start rubbing it in it starts to immediately warm up.  It’s not uncomfortable but just be prepared.  This mask genuinely feels like it cleans out my pores and leaves my face feeling clean, clear and soft.

Would I repurchase?  No, this company is not completely cruelty free in my opinion and not organic so I won’t repurchase from them for that reason.  Is the product any good.. yes I think it’s a good mask.

Leahlani Skincare Mermaid Mask: (Cruelty Free and Organic)

This product, this company, this lady is amazing!  Leah is a lovely lady living on the Hawaii island of Maui who produces all her own organic skin care formulations.  Her skin care philosophy of a sacred and loving daily ritual really shines in her exotic and beautifully unique creations.  The Mermaid Mask makes your skin glow!  Using organic Spirulina and Chlorella to purify, cleanse and soften, it is a super food treat for your skin.

Would I repurchase?  Hell yes!

Karuna Hydrating Face Mask: (Cruelty Free but NOT Organic)

I have tried quite a few different sheet masks now (Sephora brand, Whamisa, Skin Republic) and this mask was nothing special.  It was fairly hydrating but I didn’t like the thick residue that it left on my skin afterwards.  Generally I just tap the residue into my skin and do the rest of my skin care routine, but I had to wash my face after this one.

Would I repurchase?  No.  I much prefer the Whamisa Organic Flowers & Aloe Vera Fermented Hydrogel Sheet Mask.  I haven’t looked into Cruelty Free and Organic sheet masks as yet.  Any recommendations?

Please let me know your favourite cruelty free and organic masks!!!
