My Morning Skin Care Routine

morning skin care routine

This is my current morning skin routine.  Now keep in mind I bought most of these products while I was still blissfully unaware of what was organic and cruelty free and what wasn’t.  So I will not be repurchasing anything that isn’t organic and cruelty free, but I did pay for these items so I can’t just throw them out!

RED Products are neither Cruelty Free nor Organic

Blue Products are Cruelty Free but NOT Organic

Green Product (alas there is only one) is Cruelty Free and Organic

For some products I have listed ingredients in them that are not organic but not for other products.  That’s because I feel the company has made assertions that it is organic or vegan at the very least. So I felt I needed to explain why I don’t believe that particular product or company is Organic.  This all goes back to my Greenwashing blog.  There are certain companies out there that want us to believe they are Organic but if you dig a little you can uncover some major discrepancies in their statements.

So here it goes:

CLEANSERS:  (I didn’t photograph these as they live in my shower) I change them up depending on how my skin feels in the morning or what I put on it the night before.

  • Origins Plantscription Anti-Aging Cleanser
    • NOT cruelty free and NOT organic.
      • Great cleanser but will not be repurchasing.
  • Sukin Oil Balancing + Charcoal Purifying Gel Cleanser.
    • Cruelty Free and Vegan but NOT organic.
      • Contains:  PEG-150 Pentaerythrityl Tetrastearate (binder and skin conditioning agent);
      • Phenoxyethanol (preservative);
      • Benzyl Alcohol (solvent and preservative);
      • Cocoamidopropyl Betaine (skin conditioning agent).
        • A great gel cleanser for combo skin like mine but leaves a bit of a greasy residue that is hard to get off.  I got this as a sample but I will not be purchasing it as it’s not completely organic.
  • Tarte Frxxxtion Stick
    • Cruelty Free company BUT owned by Kose which is NOT cruelty free and NOT Organic.
      • Contains:  BIS-PEG-18 Methyl Ether Dimethyl Silane (skin conditioning agent)
      • Cocoamidopropyl Betaine (skin conditioning agent)
      • Phenoxyethanol (preservative)
      • Chlorphenesin (preservative)
      • Sodium Benzoate (preservative – often used as fragrance)
        • Good exfoliator but dries my skin out a lot.  I won’t be repurchasing.

  • Caudalie Moisturizing Toner
    • NOT Cruelty Free and NOT Organic
      • Good toner but will not be repurchasing.

  • Drunk Elephant C-Firma Day Serum
    • Cruelty Free but NOT Organic
      • A sticky formula with a quite overpowering smell until I layer other products over the top.  I haven’t noticed a big difference to my pigmentation.  Will not be repurchasing.
  • Manuka Doctor Targeted Wrinkle Filler
    • Hmmm the jury is still out on this one.  The company says they are Cruelty Free and 100% Natural.. But I find it a little bit suss about how they collect the bee venom – See Here..
      • I use it on my forehead and I actually do see a difference not long after I put it on.  But sadly I won’t be repurchasing this one either.
  • Odacite Papaya-Geranium Serum Concentrate
    • Cruelty Free and Organic
      • A lovely little concoction that I add to my moisturiser.  Will be repurchasing!

  • Korres Brightening Eye Cream
    • Cruelty Free but NOT Organic
      • Contains: Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate (UV Absorber)
      • Parfum (fragrance)
      • Phenoxyethanol (preservative)
      • Tocopheryl Acetate (skin conditioning agent)
        • Smells nice.. That’s about it.  Will not be repurchasing.

  • Josie Maran 100% Pure Argan Oil
    • Cruelty Free but NOT TOTALLY Organic (check out this blog about it)
      • I have only just started using this product so I won’t give a review just yet.

MOISTURISER:  During the day I will either use a moisturiser or oil. Never both. I have combo/oily skin so if I use both I look like a big grease ball!

  • Bravura Azulene Moisturiser
    • Cruelty Free and Vegan but NOT Organic
      • Dimethicone (anti-foaming agent)
      • Phenoxyethanol (preservative)
      • Triethanolamine (Surfactant)
      • Tocopheryl Acetate (skin conditioning agent)
      • Retinyl Palmitate (skin conditioning agent)
      • Potassium Sorbate (fragrance)
      • Sodium Benzoate (preservative – often used as fragrance)
        • Has a very thick formula so I might move to my night-time routine.  Will not be repurchasing.

  • La Roche-Posay Uvidea XL Melt-in Cream
    • Not Cruelty Free and Not Organic
      • I believe it does its job.  Sinking into the skin.  Does give my skin a slight white cast to it but haven’t had any issues with flashback in photography.  Will not be repurchasing.

So there you have it my morning skin care routine.  There is a lot of products I have to change when the time comes!

If anyone wants to recommend a cruelty free and organic product for my combo/oily skin please let me know!
